Dermal Fillers vs. Botox: What's the Difference?

Fillers and neuromodulators are often confused, but they work in different ways — and they're often used together.

Dermal Fillers Botox / Dysport
How It Works Adds volume beneath the skin Relaxes the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles
Best For Lost volume, folds, contours, and lips Lines from movement, like frown lines and crow's feet
Results Appear Immediately Within days
Typically Lasts 6–18 months 3–4 months

Many clients combine both for a balanced result. Your provider will recommend the right approach at your consultation.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers may be a good fit for adults who:

  • Notice volume loss in the cheeks, lips, or temples
  • Want more definition in the chin or jawline
  • Have folds visible at rest, such as smile lines
  • Prefer a non-surgical option with immediate results

Before Your Treatment

Dermal fillers are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active skin infection in the treatment area, or for people with a history of severe allergies to filler ingredients. If you're prone to cold sores and are considering lip filler, let your provider know. Please share your full medical history and current medications during your consultation.

FAQ

Frequently asked Dermal Filler questions.

Most hyaluronic acid fillers last about 6–18 months, depending on the product, the treatment area, and your metabolism. Areas with more movement, like the lips, may wear down sooner.

Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed. Your provider will discuss this option during your consultation.

Most clients feel mild discomfort. A topical numbing cream may be used, and many fillers contain lidocaine to help keep you comfortable.

Dermal fillers are priced per syringe, so the total depends on the areas treated and the amount needed. Current pricing is listed on our Pricing Menu, and your provider will confirm an estimate at your consultation.

It depends on the area, your anatomy, and your goals. Some clients start with one syringe for a subtle result; your provider will recommend a plan at your consultation.

Most clients return to normal activities the same day. Mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising is common and usually settles within one to two weeks.

Botox relaxes the muscles that cause lines from movement, while fillers add volume beneath the skin to restore contours and soften folds. They're often combined for a balanced result.

Full Facial Balancing is a customized filler plan that treats multiple areas — such as the cheeks, chin, jawline, lips, and temples — together to improve overall facial harmony. The appointment takes about 120 minutes, and pricing depends on the areas treated and the number of syringes used.
